We are often asked for documentation on how to open port 80 so that SeeFile is accessible from the Internet. This is somewhat difficult to do since every firewall and router is different and even use different terminology for the same features, ie port forwarding versus port mapping. We will provide a general procedure as well as a few tips and suggestions.
1) Find the internal IP address of the machine running SeeFile (go to System Preferences, then Network, click on Ethernet if you are using a wired connection)
2) Access the router or firewall's web interface. This is done by typing the router's IP address into a web browser. You will need the username and password.
3) Go to the Port Forwarding page (sometimes called Port Mapping or NAT)
4) You then need to create a new rule.
5) Add a Public Port of 80, add the IP address of the SeeFile machine, and a Private Port of 80. These are sometimes ranges, in this case put 80 to 80 for both the private and public ports. (Note, there is a small chance your Internet Service Provider blocks ports, specifically 80, if that is the case you might have to change the Public Port to something like 8080 or 800)
6) Click Ok or save changes.
7) Find the external IP address by going to http://www.whatismyip.com
8) People can now access SeeFile by going to the IP found in the step above then /seefile/ ie 72.72.82.165/seefile/ is our demo server. (Note, you will not be able to test from inside your network, you will need to ask a friend, client, or SeeFile tech support to test it for you.
